Far Cry 6: How to Unlock Boom Boom – Boom or Bust Quest Guide

Far-Cry-6-Boom-Boom

Boom Boom is an unlockable Amigo in Far Cry 6, and fans may recognize this pup from Far Cry 5. That’s right, the fan-favorite Fang for Hire, Boomer, has somehow made his way to Yara in Far Cry 6, and he’s ready to aid the resistance effort in any way he can. Boom Boom is unlocked via an optional side quest, so you can definitely miss him if you’re not paying attention. He’s one of the best Amigos in the game though, so you’ll want to go out of your way to add this pooch to your roster. Here’s how to complete the Boom or Bust quest and unlock Boom Boom the dog in Far Cry 6.

How to Unlock Boom Boom in Far Cry 6

Boom Boom is unlocked by completing an optional side quest called “Boom or Bust,” which can be found in the Valle de Oro region of Yara. This mission can only be obtained after completing the main story mission “Meet Maximas Matanzas,” which introduces you to the guerilla group of the area.

To start the Boom or Bust quest, you have to read a note in the Balaceras region of Valle de Oro. It’s in the same place where you talk to Bembe near the Villa Judia Hotel after one of the early story missions in the region. You can see the quest’s exact location on the map below.

How to Find the Lost Weapons Shipment in Boom or Bust

Once you read the note and accept the quest, you’ll be tasked with finding a lost weapon shipment. It’s in a light blue shipping container, but there are containers that meet that description scattered all across the search zone. The one you’re looking for is in the southwest corner of the area next to the train tracks. Once you find it, just shoot the lock off and you’ll find Boom Boom inside.

There are plenty of other blue shipping containers in the area containing valuable resources though, so it may be worth looking through all of them. One of them in particular contains a large amount of Medicine, which is incredibly useful for constructing facilities at Guerilla Camps. The only one you need to open to complete this quest is the one containing Boom Boom, however.

Boom Boom is the very same dog featured in 2018’s Far Cry 5. If you read the note posted in the shipping container where you find him, you’ll find out that everyone’s favorite side character Hurk shipped him to Yara for some reason or another. Hurk’s motivations never really make much sense, but at least you get a familiar face out of it.

Boom Boom’s primary ability allows him to retrieve resources from dead enemy bodies. This can save you a lot of time with looting and scavenging. He can also be upgraded with the following abilities:

  • Pointer – Mark the locations of enemy troops and animals
  • Expert Tracker – Tag targets from farther away
  • Thick Coat – Can take more damage

Unlocking Boom Boom’s Pointer skill should be high on your priority list if you’re going to use him as your primary Amigo. Marking enemies for you is a very useful ability, and it’ll come in handy no matter what your playstyle is. If Boom Boom isn’t your style but you still want a canine companion, don’t forget to visit the Montero Farm to unlock Chorizo.

Far Cry 6 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna.
